Hamilton Band Wins International John Lennon Songwriting Contest

HAMILTON, CANADA: Local Hamilton band Live How You Live has captured the attention of an international audience with its song “One Life” being personally selected by Yoko Ono to commemorate her late husband John Lennon’s vision for peace and love in the world.

In honour of what would have been Lennon’s 70th birthday on October 9, Yoko Ono and the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (JLSC) sent out a call for submissions for songs of peace, love, political activism and free expression. “One Life” was selected from among countless submissions received from across the globe to commemorate Lennon’s 70th birthday anniversary.

“What a great honour it is to not only win this prestigious award which bears John Lennon’s legendary namesake, but to be selected by Yoko Ono herself among such a high calibre of musicians from around the world is truly incredible,” said Carm Milioto, lead singer and principal songwriter, Live How You Live.
As the winner, the band receives a new electric Epiphone “Inspired By” John Lennon Casino guitar. Their song, “One Life” will now go on to compete in Session II of the JLSC where an additional 12 grand prize winners will continue to compete to become one of the final 12 John Lennon Award Winners who then compete for Song of the Year and a chance to tour and perform for a week on Warped Tour 2011. While delighted by the prize, the band is more so thrilled and inspired by the recognition that their song has not only been heard, but selected by Yoko Ono as a testament to the vision for peace that Lennon had for the world.
